His grandmother Queen Elizabeth III, has reigned over her british and commonwealth subjects for more than 50 years. His father, Prince Charles, is heir to the throne. And one day, Prince William will succeed his father as king. Brother Harry was born two years later. A rambunctious little boy, "Willis" was given an electronic tracking bracelet so that security staff could monitor his movements. At the ate of 8, he was sent to a boarding school, and it was during his time away that his parents separated. Although Charles and Diana were both warm, loving parents in Private, Diana broke royal protocol with affectionate displays in public. When a golfing accident left William with a skull fracture, Diana maintained a bedside vigil, after his surgery, while Charles left to attend the opera. In 1995, William- who had developed into an excellent athlete captaining both the hockey and rugby teams- entered exclusive Eton college. In August of 1996, Charles and Diana were divorced, although William and Harry remained close to both parents, one year later, the world was stunned by the death of Princess Diana in a Paris car crash. The young Princes were devastated but they bravely maintained their composure during a funeral servvice and procession televised around the globe. The tragedy drew Charles and the princess even closer together... having gained a master of arts degree at a university in Scotland, William entered the royal military academy to train as an officer in the British army, demonstrating a commitment to duty and service that befits a future king.
