Scarlett Marie Johansson was born in New York City on November 22, 1984. She made her acting debut in an off-broadway play alongside Ethan Hawke, and quickly made the transition to movies, appearing alongside Elijah Wood in 1994's "North" and with Sean Connery in "Just Cause" Subsequent movies ranged from the slapstick of "Home Alone 3" to the drama of "The Horse Whisperer" with superstar Robert Redford, from the comedy of "My Brother the Pig" to the gritty realism of "Manny and LO" Three movies released in 2001 established Scarlett as one of Hollywood's most promising newcomers-the film noir homage "The Man Who Wasn't There" the hip and quirky black comedy "Ghost World" and the Poignant "American Rhapsody" That promise was fulfilled two years later with brilliant performances in two wildly acclaimed movies "Lost in Translation" cast Scarlett opposite Bill Murray in a subtle tale of unlikely love thatearned a slew of awards worldwide, including an Oscar for writer and director Sofia Coppola "Girl With a Pearl Earring" was a cinematic homage to 17th century flemish painter Vermeer. Both movies earned Scarlett Golden Globe nominations. Regularly voted one of the most beautiful and desirable women in the world, her work has continued to span the spectrum, from her collaborations wiht director Woody Allen in "Match Point" and "Scoop " to the sci-fi thriller "The Island" and she even found time to add her voice to "The Spongebob Squarepants Movie"
