A gawky, insecure kid in glasses, she was probably the most unlikely superstar in her Georgia High School. But Julia Roberts grew up to become an Oscar winner and the highest-paid actress in Hollywood history! Julie Fiona Roberts was born on October 28, 1967. Her parents were divorced when she was 4, and Julie and her older sister were raised by their Mother in Smyrna, Georgia. Her brother, Eric, went to live with their father in Atlanta, later moving to New York to pursue an acting career. In 1885, both sisters were also living in New York and struggling to break into acting. Changing her first name to Julia after learning that there was already an actress named Julie Roberts, she endured months of auditions until Big Brother Eric interviewed. By now, he was an Oscar-nominated star and Julia was cast in his movie "Blood Red" Unfortunately the movie wouldn't be released until 1989, but it gave the teen the foot in the door she needed. After a couple of minor film and TV roles, she made her breakthrough in "Mystic Pizza" then cast alongside a host of Hollywood's female hierarchy in 1989's "Steel Magnolias" she stole the movie, earning an Oscar nomination and a Golden Globe. Her next movie saw Julia make the effortless leap to Superstardom "Pretty Woman" which paired her with Richard Gere, grossed over $460 million worldwide and earned her a second Oscar nomination. Her subsequent work has ranged from the frivolous fun of "Hook" in which she played "Tinkerbell" to the drama of "Michael Collins" and "Sleeping With the Enemy" but it is romantic comedy with which her fans seem to love her best, as evidenced by the success of "Notting Hill"and "My Best Friend's Wedding" An Oscar nomination for 2000's "Erin Brokovich: she is now the highest-paid actress in the world, commanding a $25 million fee for "Mona Lisa Smile" in 2003. Divorced from singer Lyle Lovett, she married camera operator Danny Moder in 2002 and is now the mother of Twins. More recently she has earned rave reviews for her work on the broadway stage in a sold-out run of "Three Days of Rain"
