Julian Casablancas The members of The Strokes, the quintessential garage rock band. First met in the most unlikely circumstances, singer Julain Casablancas knew the guitarist at boarding school in Europe, and he teamed up with two other members of the band when they attended Manhattan's elite Dwight School together! Julian Fernando Casablancas was born in New York on August 23, 1978. His dad is the founder of the Elite Model Agency, and his mother is a former Miss Denmark. Julian was educated at a series of exclusive private schools, including the prestigous Institut Le Rosey in Switzerland which is where he met Albert Hammond Jr., the son of a successful singer/songwriter the pair reconnected when Albert moved to New York to attend film school. Soon, Julian and Albert were sharing an apartment and playing together in a band alongside Nick Valensi, Nikolai Fraiture and Fab Moretti. The Strokes very quickly became one of the hottest bands on the New Tork club scene, and the 2001 E.P "The Modern Age" ignited a bidding frenzy among major record labels. The debut album "Is This It," was released in late 2001 to great critical acclaim. Singles such as "Last Nite" constant touring and blanket media coverage made The Strokes worldwide stars in 2002. A second album "Room on Fire" was release in late 2003 and spawned hits such as "12:51" despite conquering the world, the band remains true to its New Tork Roots, even going so far as to build a recording studio in the heart of the city to record the group's third album, "First Impressions of Earth"
