Jonathan Rhys Meyers Jonathan Rhys Meyers was born in Dublin, Ireland, on July 27, 1977. A serious heart condition that kept him confined to a hospital for several months as an infant. He and his three brothers were subsequently raised by their mother in County Cork. He left school at 16 with no ambitions or prospects, but was discovered by a casting agency. He made his acting debut in a soup commercial before landing a small role in the 1999 movie " A Man of No Importance." He went on to appear in projects as diverse as the movie "Michael Collins" opposite Liam Neeson and the 1995 made-for-TV movie "Samson and Delilah." His breakthrough came with his memorable portrayal of "Glam" rockstar opposite Ewan Mcgregor and Christian Bale, in the 1998 movie "Velvet Goldmine" he went on to land starring roles in the land starring roles in the BBC's epic production of "Gormenghast" and the 2002 TV adaption of "The Magnificent Ambersons." The same year "Bend it Like Beckham" was a surprise box office hit, earning Jonathan legions of new admirers worldwide. He continued to star in a series of smaller-budget films before landing the lead in the CBS mini-series "Elvis" His acclaimed portrayal of the Legendary rocker earned him an Emmy nomination and set the stage for starring roles in such upcoming movies as Woody Allen's "Match Point" and "Mission: Impossible III."
