Arlo and Janis Corina's Going-a-Maying * by Robert Herrick 1591-1674 Get up! Get up! Get out of bed! Mother Nature's lost her head! She's thrown her best upon the earth, All is color, song and mirth, You're not here and it's a shame, With boys afoot and girls agame. Get up! Get up! Throw on a dress! If you can manage, maybe less. Lose your jewels. Forget the pearls. Soft leaves and grass adorn the girls. Let's go! Let's go! And I'll stop braying! You're all I need to go a-Maying! Come out! Come out! See with your eyes, How all around such beauty lies, The trees so green, the world a park, And you're inside, still in the dark, 'Twould be a sin is all I'm saying, Not to do it, not go a-Maying! Our friends are out there making time, While I sit here inventing rhyme, They're putting normal to the test, Shocking truth gets passed for jest, No way to tell what plans they're laying, Now can we please, please, please go a-Maying? And I really hate to mention this, But here's a reason not to miss. The days are passing with the sun, It won't be long before we're done. In the ground we'll be decaying, And then we'll wish we'd gone a-Maying! *This isn't really how the poem goes, but it is the gist! Janis: I've heard that last line before!
