Beginning in 1492, Christopher Columbus made four voyages to the Caribbean basin and was the governor of Hispaniola. Ship: Come in, Santa Maria, over... Come in, Santa Maria, over... Still, until his death in 1506, he insisted his travels and discoveries had all been in Asia. Christopher Columbus: It's zen minimalism, of course! Even before his death, this claim had become discounted. Man: So Chris, the world is round like trees? Christopher Columbus: Si! Explorer Amerigo Vespucci came closely in Columbus' wake and wrote accounts of a 'new world' that were widely read in Europe. Amerigo Vespucci: This place is great!! North America / Columbus / South America Had Chris not been pig-headed about things, he might have had two continents named for him, instead of the capital of Ohio!* *Editor's note: not that there is anything wrong with the capital of Ohio!
