Arlo and Janis Arlo: On this date in history in 1799, French soldiers in Egypt discovered the Rosetta Stone. Arlo: The tablet contained a message in three languages, one ancient Greek. This enabled scholars to interpret therefore unknowable Egyptian hieroglyphics. The words "Rosetta Stone" became a term for any key to deeper understanding. Janis: Such as a "Date-In-History" cartoon always means the cartoonist is stuck? Arlo: Exactly!
